I had the grand opportunity to attend the ManPower Conference this year at the Potter’s House in Dallas, Texas. The theme was “Where Men Talk.” This conference had some exceptional preachers such as Pastor Chris Hill, Bishop Michael Pitts, Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, Dr. Marvin Sapp, and of course Bishop T.D. Jakes!
With approximately 10,000 men in attendance at this year’s conference, there was surely a move of God in that place! I really admire Bishop Jakes and the vision of his ministry to organize sucn event where men can talk and be candid about issues that we face. Often times men tend to bottle up emotions only to be erupted after being shaken by life’s problems.
One of the sessions that I enjoyed the most during the conference is when Kirk Franklin, Wess Morgan, and Kwame Kilpatrick took the stage with host Kenneth Braswell of Father’s Inc. Each panel member discussed their past issues and how God delivered them out of it. It’s always good to hear the prospective from other men because most times men feel that the issue they are facing is only for them. In reality we all are facing an issue that may be similar to one another. When men start talking about these sensitive issues then that’s when God can use the issue to make you an overcomer. Kirk Franklin state: “God can only heal what you reveal.” God wants those intimate or hidden issues that we hide–those secrets. I believe that once we confess those secret sis that God will begin a healing process in our lives.
I hope and pray that my church home and other local churches in the community will organize panel discussions that will help men grow and enhance their walk with Jesus Christ!
